Movember 2025: Why Men’s Health Still Needs Our Voice

As November draws to a close, the moustaches taking over our timelines remind us of something much bigger than summer or the year-end rush. Every “Mo” grown this month represents a commitment to improving men’s health, one conversation, one check-up, and one community at a time.

Movember 2025 continues to unite millions worldwide, and here at Office National, it is our duty to raise awareness for mental health, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer.

Men all over continue to face significant health challenges. Many delay going to the doctor, avoid speaking about their emotions, and often deal with mental-health struggles in silence. Movember’s mission is simple but vital: to help men live happier, healthier, and longer lives by sparking honest conversations, promoting early detection, and funding initiatives that make a real impact.

The Big Three: Movember’s Focus Areas

1. Prostate Cancer: Prostate cancer remains the most common cancer among South African men. According to the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), men over 50 years old, or men who are aged 40 years old with a family history, should get screened regularly. Early detection through PSA (prostate-specific antigen) tests can be lifesaving.

2. Testicular Cancer: While rarer, testicular cancer is the most common cancer in younger men aged 15 to 35. Movember awareness campaigns encourage men to familiarise themselves with their bodies by performing regular self-checks to be aware of changes and seek help early.

3. Mental Health and Suicide Prevention: Global stats reveal that men are four times more likely to die by suicide than women. The stigma around seeking help remains high, but conversations are changing. Reaching out to your local mental-health helplines and organisations such as SADAG (South African Depression and Anxiety Group), and Movember’s funded mental-fitness initiatives that are helping men speak up and get the support they need.

How You Can Join the Movement

You don’t need to grow a moustache to make a difference, though it’s a great icebreaker! Here’s how everyone can get involved this Movember:

1.      Grow a Mo: Rock your moustache proudly and use it to start meaningful conversations.

2.      Move for Movember: Walk, run, cycle, or surf for 60 minutes or 60 kilometres this month, symbolising the 60 men lost to suicide every hour globally.

3.      Fundraise or Host an Event: Encourage your office, sports club, or community to join the movement. Even a casual braai or team challenge can help raise awareness and funds.

5.      Who grows the best moustache or completes the most kilometres? It’s fun, builds team spirit, and supports a cause that matters.

 

Keeping the Momentum Going

Movember isn’t just about a month of moustaches; it’s about changing the way men approach their health all year long. Here are some global initiatives happening this month:

Know Thy Nuts Campaign: An ongoing global awareness push encouraging men to talk openly about testicular health. There are many ways to get creative with awareness campaigns during November, with a lot of resources and ideas online. You can brainstorm an initiative that speaks to your brand and aligns with your business.

Health-Equity Grants: Grants from iCCare Consortium, Villgro Africa, and other initiatives invested $4.9 million in 18 projects that address inequities in prostate cancer care research. This assists in the early detection of prostate cancer across Africa.

Let’s make Movember 2025 the year we grow change for ourselves, our brothers, our fathers, and our friends. Movember isn’t just about a month of moustaches; it’s about changing the way men approach their health all year long.
